Thriving with emotional freedom through self-respect, self-honesty, and self-responsibility.
Emotional freedom does not come from a perfectly curated environment or an absence of conflict. It comes through a fierce, uncompromising commitment to a trinity of principles: Self-Respect, Self-Honesty, and Self-Responsibility.
What is emotional freedom?
Emotional freedom means you stop letting other people dictate how you feel inside and where you direct your energy.
In everyday terms, it is the moment you realise three things:
1. You decide your values and it’s up to you to live by them.
2. You control what to aspire to, focus on, expend time and energy on, and care about.
3. You are responsible for managing your mood, your actions, your peace, your self-worth... basically, YOU.
It is moving from thinking of someone else in an interaction "Your happiness and contentment enables me to feel happy and content" to "I am completely responsible for my own behaviour, reactions, happiness, peace, and contentment, and you no longer automatically get first call on my resources because I mistakenly believe that's the only way for me to feel peace and contentment."
It is clean, it is boundary-driven, and it puts you entirely back in charge of knitting the pattern of your own life stitch by stitch.
What is Self-Respect?
The firm refusal to trade your own values, boundaries, or self-worth for someone else’s (often temporary) approval or comfort.
What is Self-Honesty?
Looking directly into your own internal mirror and admitting exactly what you are doing, feeling, and why – with zero excuses and zero filtering – and ensuring your actions adhere to your values.
What is Self-Responsibility?
The absolute acceptance that your life, your choices, your mistakes, and your emotional health are 100% your responsibility.
The only way to knit your own monkey in life authentically - to your own pattern with your own needles and yarns - you need to practice self-respect, self-honesty, and self-responsibility. And when that pattern is confusing - which for me is often (!) because I'm not a skilled knitter - I've found these 5 rules help to bring clarity.
Strip away the immediate emotional noise and break a problem down into its components so you can see the reality of what you are actually dealing with. Sometimes this takes many stages to work through a knotted mess of multiple yarns… but it is worth this effort in the pursuit of true self-responsibility through self-honesty and self-respect. So do it.

Give each moment your full, honest effort based on the energy you have right now—no half-measures, no hiding. Do it well enough that you’re proud to say what you’ve done or hear how someone else describes what you’ve done (not because their opinion is key, but because it helps you check-in on your self-honesty). Feel and honour your self-respect, practice your self-responsibility, track yourself through self-honesty.
Act with complete integrity in support of your values. Choose integrity over approval.
If doing the right thing by your core values means walking away from the crowd, walk. Refuse to be seduced by the easy path of "keeping the peace" to avoid short-term discomfort. Reject externally induced shame. If you know yourself through absolute self-honesty and wish to honour yourself through self-respect and self-responsibility… do your right thing.

Adopt the ultramarathon mindset. When you are floundering in the dark, when the rest of the world is silent and that silence feels like disapproval or doubt, keep knitting. Trust your self-honesty, honour your self-respect, own your self-responsibility. Your efforts, your passions, and your dreams are entirely worthy of your loyalty. With every stitch, you are knitting your own monkey.
This is the ultimate clause of absolute sovereignty. There will be times when "doing your best" or "thinking through the problem" is precisely the wrong move for that exact moment. If your troop requires a radical change, change it. If your monkey needs a completely new style of stitch for the next row, knit it. When you operate through self-honesty, self-respect, and self-responsibility, you hold the needles. You dictate the pattern.

KYOM isn’t a programme you complete.
It’s an approach you grow into.
You might start by reading. By listening. By noticing how you are responding to life's experiences and interactions.
Small shifts count. Deliberate choices matter. And nothing, absolutely nothing here requires perfection.
It’s about navigating life on YOUR terms — and finding a version of yourself that feels more honest, more grounded, and more yours than ever before.
And, if you’re here, you’ve already knitted your first stitch!
